Hidden River Lures derives its name from the Schuylkill River. The river was given the Dutch name Schuylkill (pronounced SKOO-kill, Dutch for Hidden River) by its European discoverer Arendt Corssen of the Dutch West India Company.  The explanation given for the river name “Schuylkill” is that it translates to “hidden river’ and refers to the river’s confluence with the Delaware River at League Island, which was nearly hidden at the time by dense vegetation.

The Schuylkill river is about 130 miles long.  Its watershed of about 2,000 square miles lies entirely within the state of Pennsylvania.  The source of its eastern branch is the Appalachian Mountains at Tuscarora Springs, near Tamaqua in Schuylkill County.  The west branch of the Schuylkill starts near Minersville and joins the eastern branch at the town of Schuylkill Haven.  The Schuylkill joins the Delaware River in Philadelphia

The Schuylkill is the river I grew up on and where I learned to love the sport of fishing.  My brothers and I spent every day of our summers fishing, swimming, canoeing and camping on the river. "The River" was like our backyard and where I learned to fish, so I thought it appropriate to name our lures after it.
